If you run a business, you know how important it is to have working toilets in your building. Most people ignore toilet problems until they get worse, and the toilet becomes unusable. By this time, it’s typically too late to fix it on your own, and you need a professional plumber to take care of the problem. Here are some common toilet problems and how to fix them before it’s too late.

Running Toilet

One of the most common problems is a toilet that continues to run after it is flushed. Constantly running water will raise your monthly water bill, so you should fix it as soon as you notice it. This issue is caused by a flapper that doesn’t seal, or from the water level in the tank being too high.

If the problem is the flapper, you’ll need to replace it with a new one that seals properly. Make sure the chain attached to the flapper isn’t too long, or it will get stuck and cause the toilet to keep running.

To fix the fill height in the toilet, you need to adjust the float. If it’s set too high, the water will spill into the overflow tube, making the toilet run constantly. Adjust the float until the water shuts off at the right level.

Rocking Toilet

Another common toilet problem is one that rocks back and forth when you sit on it. This can be fixed by inserting a shim under the toilet. Remove the caulking and insert the shims. Re-caulk the base of the toilet, and tighten the bolts on both sides of the base. Be careful not to tighten them too much or you will crack the toilet.

Leaking Toilet At Base

A toilet that is leaking at the base can be caused by several problems. It could be a wax ring seal that needs to be replaced, or it could just need to be resealed. If much of the toilet’s floor is rotten due to leakage, you might have to replace the toilet.

Leaking toilets will cause water to leak into the subfloor and walls, making them more susceptible to mold growth. It can also destroy flooring if it is not addressed quickly.

Clogged Toilet

A clogged toilet is a problem everyone has dealt with or will deal with in their lives. This is one of the easier problems to fix, because most of the time you only need a plunger to fix it. If plunging the toilet doesn’t fix the clog, cleaning the drain is the next step.

Drain cleaning is a common maintenance service for commercial plumbing systems. The waste water that comes out of your business may tie into the municipal sewers. It’s your responsibility to fix any plumbing issues on your property, including blockages in the sewage line. If you have a clogged drain at your business, it’s best to call a plumber to clean the drains.
