History of Allen’s Tri-State Mechanical Inc.

Allen’s Tri-State Mechanical Inc. was founded in 1946, by Howard C. Allen. The founding name of Allen’s Tri-State Mechanical Inc. was Allen’s Plumbing Company (Allen’s). With the first location located at 1010 10th Street, Amarillo, Texas. Allen’s was founded with one employee (Howard C. Allen), and one Chevy panel van. The company motto at that time was “No job too large, or too small.” In late 1947, Allen’s moved to 1021 5th Street, in Amarillo, employing three full time employees, with four service vehicles. As Amarillo grew so did Allen’s. With beef packing houses and other industry moving into the Panhandle area, work became plentiful. At the time, boiler work and sewer repair/stoppages became a mainstay for Allen’s. As time went by in the 60’s and 70’s Allen’s continued to evolve into a full service company focusing on repair and service, with a strong commercial emphasis. Howard C. Allen’s talents in technology allowed him to build or purchase industrial equipment not common to the city of Amarillo. The utilization of Pump Trucks and High Pressure Washer Vehicles provided vast opportunities for Allen’s, and provided a great service for its customers. By 1971, Allen’s moved to its present location of 404 S. Hayden, and became known as Allen’s Tri-State Mechanical Inc., employing over 15 employees with over 25 service vehicles.

Today, independently owned, Allen’s Tri-State Mechanical Inc. is one of the largest mechanical service and repair contractors in the City of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle. Allen’s Tri-State Mechanical Inc. has grown to be known as “The Only Full Service Company in Amarillo Since 1946.” Boasting over 50 service vehicles and over 60 employees, Allen’s Tri-State Mechanical Inc. continues to be a mainstay in the Texas Panhandle. Howard C. Allen was 89 years old when he died January 10, 2016 in Amarillo, Texas.

A true home town Texas boy, Howard C. Allen always told everyone he met: “God has been good to Amarillo.” This term of conviction he thought so highly of, he placed a sign stating it on the front of his main office on Hayden Street.

Howard C. Allen: A visionary, a man with a simple plan to build a business, a man not afraid to roll-up his sleeves and “get busy,” a steward to the City of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle, a business man, a man of integrity, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a great grandfather.

At 88 years of age, Howard C. Allen worked everyday at Allen’s Tri-State Mechanical Inc. Typically he was the first one there every morning.
